Easter Shoe Box Parade and Egg Hunt with Peter Cottontail

Shoebox Parade
The Easter/Spring Parade has been a tradition on the Atlantic City Boardwalk and throughout towns since the early 1900’s.  Just because covid protocols are in place, doesn’t mean we still can’t have a parade. So,let’s design a virtual parade to celebrate Spring and Easter.  All you need is a Shoebox, or any small box or platform, that can be the base for your creativity.

Need some ideas and inspiration? CLICK HERE to view examples.
Keep the cardboard box/ platform size to approx. 14”l  x 10” w max.  You can use any items from around the house: toys, decorations, foods, plants, flowers, stuffed animals, dolls and even PEEPS, to create the story or scene for your parade float. And, it’s easy-peasy as it does not have to move or be mobile since you will be submitting photos of your float. And even better, you will have a fabulous, homemade table centerpiece or decoration to display at your house!

How do I get this to Parks & Rec? So, now that your parade float is complete, take 3 photos from the front, side and back angles, and e-mail your awesome photo submissions to: bsatterley@nhtwp.org Be sure to add: SHOEBOX PARADE to the subject line.
We will create a video from all of the beautiful Springtime Parade floats for all to see.
The Hunt: And there’s more! Peter Cottontail will be hopping around at ten (10) different Northampton Township building locations* leaving a large colorful egg that will have a hidden word. Your “hunt” will be to find all 10 eggs and unscramble the words to reveal the Bunny’s message.

Egg Hunt:
- Signs will be displayed at all Township locations from Friday, March 19 until Thursday, April 1. This way you can hunt eggs at your convenience when you drive nearby on different days or make it a one day outing!
- A Bunny Sign will be at each location. See below for addresses.
- Move the egg to the side to reveal a secret word at each site.
- When you have all 10 words, unscramble them to make a sentence.
- When you reveal the message, e-mail it to Parks & Recreation: Bsatterley@nhtwp.org
along with your child’s name and age. Be sure to add: EGG HUNT ANSWER in the subject line. Submissions will be taken through 9:00am, April 1.
- Four randomly selected children will receive the Golden Egg award of a $ 25 gift card to the Learning Express so be sure to hunt down those eggs!
