Beginner's Cold Process Soap Making
This is a hand-on class for the beginner soap maker, no prior experience is required. The soap making process taught is Cold Process, technique Thermal Heat/Room Temperature. In this class, you will gain an understanding of:
• Understanding lye safety.
• Learning how to correctly measure raw materials using grams and ounces.
• What is a soap calculator and why it is used.
• How fats and oils become soap.
• What is super fatting?
• Essential Oils and Fragrant Oils: How do they differ?
• Handout will contain the following information: soap making instructions, safety instructions, equipment, and reference books and websites.
General Information: Participants need to bring the following items, participation is prohibited without the necessary equipment
• Full Apron
• Heavy Rubber Gloves (i.e., Playtex Long Line)
• Soap Making attire:
A. Closed toes shoes
B. Long sleeve shirt (high collar)
C. Long pants (these can be old, something that you do not mind getting soiled)
D. Tie back for long hair
E. 2 old heavy towels to keep your soap warm that will accommodate soap being
wrapped in the two towels
What you will take home:
1. Class handout with curing instructions, conversion calculations, starter soap recipes and other information.
2. One log of soap - approximately 30oz prior to curing.
3. Confidence
4. A big smile

Lotion Making from Scratch
This is a hands-on class. Learn how to make your own lotion from scratch. Learn the importance of good manufacturing practices and temperature control. Learn how to choose oils and butters for your skin type, why to use a preservative, how to scent with fragrant oils or essential oils as a matter of preference and proper labeling even when not selling. Participants will make 2 bottles of lotion.

Participants need to bring the following items:
• Apron
• Rubber Gloves, light weight
• Old clothes that you do not mind getting soiled
• Tie back for long hair

- Early Resident Savings –(ERS) Northampton Residents registering at least one week prior to the start date of the program will pay the Early Resident Savings Fee (ERS). The ERS fee is not listed below, but will appear during the checkout process.
