Discover the ancient art of Sumi-e Japanese ink painting, a practice that has been passed down through generations since the 14th century. This traditional technique involves grinding ink sticks on an ink stone to create stunning artworks with just black ink and a brush. The focus is on capturing the essence of the subject with simplicity and grace. In each class, students will start with warm-up exercises before moving on to painting on delicate rice paper. The final piece can be mounted on cardstock for display. Each class, a different subject or kanji character will be explored. Sumi-e is not just a painting style but a meditative practice that encourages mindfulness and appreciation for the beauty of imperfection. Enroll in this class to explore the peaceful practice of Sumi-e painting. Children aged 10-12 who can remain seated are welcome to register with a registered adult.
