Make Your Own Elderberry and Hibiscus Fire Cider Workshop
In this hands-on workshop, students will learn to craft Elderberry & Hibiscus Fire Cider. This is one of the many traditional herbal tonics known for its immune-boosting and digestive benefits. Each participant will prepare their own jar, blending powerful ingredients like elderberries, hibiscus, ginger, garlic, turmeric, and apple cider vinegar.
The class will cover the history, benefits, and fermentation process of fire cider, along with proper preparation techniques. Students will measure, mix, and assemble their jars while learning about the properties of each ingredient. They will also receive step-by-step instructions for at-home fermentation, straining, and adding honey after the process is complete. This workshop is perfect for those interested in natural remedies, herbalism, and fermentation. All materials, including jars, ingredients, and honey containers, will be provided.
By the end of the session, participants will have a ready-to-ferment jar of fire cider, knowledge of its wellness benefits, and the confidence to create their own herbal infusions at home.
Notes: Creating the fire cider can be messy and staining: Please wear old, clean clothes. Consider bringing kitchen gloves to protect your hands. Consider a full apron, this will help to prevent staining from transferring from you to your car.
Elderberry Syrup Workshop
In this interactive class, participants will:
1. Receive step-by-step instruction on making elderberry syrup using raw honey and simple ingredients.
2. Discover the documented medicinal properties of elderberries.
3. Discuss important safety considerations, including why elderberry syrup is not recommended for children under age 2 and raw honey should not be given to infants under 1.
4. Explore natural methods for extending shelf life, such as refrigeration, alcohol additions, and proper bottling.
5. Learn how to store and use the syrup effectively at home.
6. Take home a jar of syrup made in class.
7. Receive a detailed handout that includes the full recipe, safety notes, storage tips, and additional resources
Notes: Elderberries can stain clothing and skin. Please wear old, clean clothes and consider bringing kitchen gloves to protect your hands.The syrup mixture will be hot after simmering. Please follow all instructions carefully when handling hot liquids and allow time for it to cool before transferring to jars. You are also free to bring your own dish cloth or pot holder if it makes you more comfortable. There will be a cooling window after simmering the syrup. During this time, we will review the handout. If there is additional waiting time after reviewing the handout and addressing all questions, please consider bringing a book or light reading material to enjoy. Or consider connecting with other workshop participants. All supplies and equipment will be provided.
