Chess Instruction for Adult Beginners
This class focuses on teaching the rules of chess and how the pieces move, in addition to describing chess using correct terminology. Students learn how chess increases critical thinking and pattern recognition skills and are provided a historical overview of the game. Students learn basic concepts about the three phases of the game of the opening, middle game, and endgame. Instructional exercises include checkmating patterns, introduction to basic openings, and strategic and tactical goals of the game. By the end of this course, students learn how to play a game of chess and record it using chess notation.
