Art for Adults - Kintsugi Golden Joinery Workshop - Kintsugi
Kintsugi is a traditional Japanese art of repairing broken pottery by mending the cracks with a golden bond. This practice emphasizes beauty in imperfection, celebrating history and uniqueness rather than hiding flaws. While traditional Kintsugi uses lacquer and gold powder, we’ll be using modern materials to ensure a comfortable and accessible experience. For this reason, your finished piece is intended for decorative use only (not food/water/heat safe). Each piece becomes a one-of-a-kind work of art. Materials may stain, so please "dress for mess".$10 materials fee due to instructor the first day of class.You may take your piece home that evening if stable to move, but most participants opt to dry overnight to be picked up at the Senior Center the following day. Alterations - Alterations I
Alterations I:In this hands-on workshop, you’ll learn how to perform some of the most common clothing alterations, including:
Hemming by hand and machine (including jeans)
Taking in or adding darts and adjusting side seams
Sewing on buttons, snaps, and hooks
Repairing and patching denim
During Alterations I, we’ll work on sample fabric to practice each technique. A basic understanding of machine sewing is required. If you're new to using a sewing machine, we recommend taking our Intro to Sewing class on October 26 to build your foundational skills. Bring your own machine; all other materials will be provided. Alterations II: In this follow-up session, you'll apply the skills learned in Alterations I to real garments. Bring in one or more items of clothing that need any of the following:
Hemming (including keeping the original denim hem)
Sewing buttons, hooks, or snaps
Taking in or letting out seams or darts
Adding darts for better fit
Patching or repairing denim

Chess Instruction for Adult Beginners - Chess Instruction for Adult Beginners
This class focuses on teaching the rules of chess and how the pieces move, in addition to describing chess using correct terminology. Students learn how chess increases critical thinking and pattern recognition skills and are provided a historical overview of the game. Students learn basic concepts about the three phases of the game of the opening, middle game, and endgame. Instructional exercises include checkmating patterns, introduction to basic openings, and strategic and tactical goals of the game. By the end of this course, students learn how to play a game of chess and record it using chess notation.Instructor: Jared Groder

Get ready to sculpt fabulous creations with clay! Artists will score, slip, and join natural clay to create many decorative and functional objects they can later paint, decoupage, or seal (in the following week's class). Projects may include a pencil holder, magnets, a trinket box, and more.
