Kintsugi is a traditional Japanese art of repairing broken pottery by mending the cracks with a golden bond.  This practice emphasizes beauty in imperfection, celebrating history and uniqueness rather than hiding flaws. Each piece becomes a one-of-a-kind, decorative work of art.   All materials included.  You may take your piece home that evening if stable to move, but most participants opt to dry overnight to be picked up at the Senior Center the following day. About the Instructor:  Leigh Ferello is an accomplished Art Educator, dedicated to inspiring creativity in students across Bucks County and its neighboring regions.  With a passion for various art forms, Leigh fosters artistic expression through engaging lessons and community workshops.

Make Your Own Elderberry and Hibiscus Fire Cider WorkshopIn this hands-on workshop, students will learn to craft Elderberry & Hibiscus Fire Cider. This is one of the many traditional herbal tonics known for its immune-boosting and digestive benefits. Each participant will prepare their own jar, blending powerful ingredients like elderberries, hibiscus, ginger, garlic, turmeric, and apple cider vinegar.The class will cover the history, benefits, and fermentation process of fire cider, along with proper preparation techniques. Students will measure, mix, and assemble their jars while learning about the properties of each ingredient. They will also receive step-by-step instructions for at-home fermentation, straining, and adding honey after the process is complete. This workshop is perfect for those interested in natural remedies, herbalism, and fermentation. All materials, including jars, ingredients, and honey containers, will be provided.By the end of the session, participants will have a ready-to-ferment jar of fire cider, knowledge of its wellness benefits, and the confidence to create their own herbal infusions at home.Notes:  Creating the fire cider can be messy and staining: Please wear old, clean clothes. Consider bringing kitchen gloves to protect your hands. Consider a full apron, this will help to prevent staining from transferring from you to your car.Elderberry Syrup WorkshopIn this interactive class, participants will:1. Receive step-by-step instruction on making elderberry syrup using raw honey and simple ingredients.2. Discover the documented medicinal properties of elderberries.3. Discuss important safety considerations, including why elderberry syrup is not recommended for children under age 2 and raw honey should not be given to infants under 1.4. Explore natural methods for extending shelf life, such as refrigeration, alcohol additions, and proper bottling.5. Learn how to store and use the syrup effectively at home.6. Take home a jar of syrup made in class.7. Receive a detailed handout that includes the full recipe, safety notes, storage tips, and additional resourcesNotes:  Elderberries can stain clothing and skin. Please wear old, clean clothes and consider bringing kitchen gloves to protect your hands.The syrup mixture will be hot after simmering. Please follow all instructions carefully when handling hot liquids and allow time for it to cool before transferring to jars. You are also free to bring your own dish cloth or pot holder if it makes you more comfortable. There will be a cooling window after simmering the syrup. During this time, we will review the handout. If there is additional waiting time after reviewing the handout and addressing all questions, please consider bringing a book or light reading material to enjoy. In this hands-on workshop, you’ll learn how to perform some of the most common clothing alterations, including: Hemming by hand and machine (including jeans) Taking in or adding darts and adjusting side seams Sewing on buttons, snaps, and hooks Repairing and patching denim During Alterations I, we’ll work on sample fabric to practice each technique.Alterations IIIn this follow-up session, you'll apply the skills learned in Alterations I to real garments. Bring in one or more items of clothing that need any of the following: Hemming (including keeping the original denim hem) Sewing buttons, hooks, or snaps Taking in or letting out seams or darts Adding darts for better fit Patching or repairing denim This is a great opportunity to give new life to your clothes with guided support!Instructor:  Susana Ash has a degree in Apparel Design and worked professionally in the New York and Philadelphia garment industries.  She has a studio in Doylestown and has been teaching needle crafts to all ages for the past 15 years.A basic understanding of machine sewing is required. If you're new to using a sewing machine, we recommend taking our Intro to Sewing class on October 6 to build your foundational skills.  Bring your own machine; all other materials will be provided.  *Please note that cancellations will not be accepted, as the instructor has already pre-purchased supplies for the session.*

9:00 AM - 12:00 PM    Mini Sweater Garland Workshop - NEW! - Mini Sweater Garland Workshop - NEW!
The Mini Sweater Garland Workshop is appropriate for an advanced beginner knitter or anyone who feels confident with basic knitting techniques such as casting on, knitting, purling, binding off, and pattern reading. In this class, students will learn to create a festive sweater garland to decorate their homes. They will knit the mini sweater, seam its sides, and assemble the garland. Written instructions and some materials will be provided for this class.?? This project is an excellent way to finish any partly used skeins of yarn! The class will begin with an overview of the project and picking out yarn colors. The instructor will review the knitting pattern and demonstrate key parts of the project. Then, there will be time for students to work on their projects, and the instructor will provide students with assistance as necessary.?Participants must bring size 8 knitting needles, two skeins or 123 yards (41 yards per mini sweater) of worsted weight yarn in different colors, and a tapestry needle.
